The Torture of a New Me

OK, hot off the press. My brand-new author photo.
Does it seem like "me"?
And . . . isn't it weird that you WRITE but you have to find a picture for your press kits and so on that you are comfortable floating out there. If you are like me . . . and hate getting your picture taken, it is akin to torture.
I write to keep the world at arm's length. I don't have to leave the house. I LOVE my job. I love that I don't have to get in a car and go somewhere to do it. I don't have to SEE other human beings except for my rugrats. But the new photo? Like I said . . . like some kind of primitive torture. I have others--color, black and white. Some me. Some . . . not me.
Have you thought about having to stick a face on your book cover?

P.S. What's on my iPod (I know, enough with the F***ing iPod) . . . Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel.

Awesome photo, Erica. Great hair, eyes, smile...
And I've always loved b&w for some reason.
I think when my time comes, I'll just find one of Barry Eisler's old pics and send it in. :)
Jude:
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know, I have often thought of putting a fake photo out there!

Great photo, Erica.
Back in the dark ages, I performed at several community theaters...had to have a b&w head shot. What a hoot!
Roles and images...guess that's part of it, huh?

I salute you. Don't think I could get up on stage!!!
I think a lot of writers are pretty solitary, so there is definitely this "disconnect" about having to be out there at signings or conferences, or putting your picture out there.

Cool photo, Erica. I love the b&w.
I'm having mine done at the end of Jan.... and I'm dreading it... I hate having my pic taken. And what to wear???? I have guidelines from my pub about how the photo should look - head and shoulders blah blah, but I also want some for my website that are less formal.
I've discussed with the photographer the need for extensive airbrushing!!!

It's pretty astouning what a filtered lens can do! LOL!
I'll try to post some of the color ones. The lens makes a big difference. And then photoshop can do a lot.
And believe me, I relate to dreading it. It's just a very odd thing. When we're kids, we get our pictures snapped by our parents, school photos and so on. But when we get older, we just don't. If we have kids, we're usually the ones TAKING the photo.

I think it's fabulous! You look warm and very approachable =)
Ok off to read about the iPod (which by the way can be washed and dried and will still work, though you may have to get new headphones and I don't recommend it, really, just ask my son)
amie:
LOL! I will NOT try to wash and dry my brand-new iPod!!!!
However, now in my daytimer, along with my "To Do" lists, I will have to keep a running "songs I want to download" list.

Peter Gabriel! You clearly have fabulous taste in music, Erica.
Terrific shot. Very relaxed, sweet, like amie mentioned, approachable. Very you :)
Ah, my shot? Guess I'm not ready to emerge completely from my closet just yet. So far I've only exposed my eyes. I wanted to use my feet, but the off-spring declared that "weird and perverted"
naomi:
Thank you. Peter Gabriel is a GOD.
:-)

Lainey:
Your eyes are very intriguing though!!!
