Time
I need an extra day in every week.
No getting around it. I do.
But since that's not possible, I'll just have to go zen here.
Here's a quote about managing time and commitments.
Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials.
~Lin Yutang
So . . . my non-essentials, lately, have included making beds and doing laundry.
How about you?
No getting around it. I do.

Longer days, weeks, months, years. Heck it's mid-year 2008. Where has the time gone?
Must be some way I can do it all without letting go of the blogs...
My desk is a nightmare of mail, filing papers, junk. I will take the time today to sweep it all under a rug somewhere just to have it out of sight. Like the gf said, box it up and stick a date on it 7 years from now. Throw it away then.
I'm using a new system that consists of dumping unopened junk mail directly into the recycle bin even if, horrors, they have window envelopes.
I have a housecleaner who comes every 2 weeks. I have gardeners who keep the lawn trimmed. Both well worth the money though I do love to get my hands in the dirt.
I don't read as much as I used to, but I still keep my hand in there as much as possible.
Almost nothing in this house has a place and is in that place. Drives me batty sometimes, but it's very low on the priority list.
Gosh, this sort of thing is really going around the blogosphere! I've been struggling with this. Oh, man, where do I start? Put it this way: I write, I teach, I play piano, in no particular order. About once a week I clean for about ... thirty minutes. I do the lawn when it can't be put off any longer. (Speaking of which ...)
Anything else is just not important to me. I resent having to cook for myself, having to pick out clothes to wear, even having to take a shower.
I just want to get to things that are important to me.
I do blog about an hour a day. I refuse to feel guilty about that. I need some social/fun outlet.
Sarah:
This house literally SPILLS out. I have blogged for a while now, and periodically, I lament the clutter. It is a constant theme in my life.

spy:
I feel the same about showers, clothing, the mundane things. I wish I could snap my fingers and voila! Dressed and ready to go.
E
Right now I'd even settle for an extra hour or two added to each day.
Travis:
I'd take that, too. :-)
E
Erica, I'm on a mission to let things go that aren't working. My office is cluttered, and I'll be taking care of that after a ballgame today. Sometimes my bed doesn't get made, etc. I do what I can, and refuse to feel "guilt" anymore. Life is too short.
And I plan on reading all the blogs I missed this week too. I get inspired here.
Hi Ladonna:
I am really working at figuring out what's not working in my life. I think I am having a mid-life crisis. ;-)
E
I've decided paying taxes just ain't worth the trouble. Also, does it really matter how long the grass is in the yard? I mean meadow?
I think I make my bed about twice a year--something Mom and I used to fight about when I was a kid LOL
I do the laundry but it's sitting in the corner. The kids mess up most of the house, so they clean it (and they're getting paid to clean it). I cook, do dishes, laundry (but I do not fold other people's (see little boys) clothes and put them away).
stephen:
My meadow's lookin' pretty neglected!!!!!
E
Hi Amie:
I am trying to figure out how to divy up chores for the summer--because I will have all four home all the time.
That sound? My shrieking.
E
Erica I have a job outside the home but summer is still pretty crazy! I come home and they want to go and do while I want to collapse--my solution is the YMCA a couple evenings a week :) I can do some much needed treadmill time while they swim!
My bed gets pulled up each morning but only made with the correct cover, throw cushions etc, when guests come.
I have a husband and a teenage son who both know exactly what their chores are and so we have no bitching in this household about who does what. It is all spelt out and agreed upon so life is fairly smooth from that point of view. I think the chaos comes from feeling put upon - that the others in the household don't do enough. When children are small, that is another matter.
I wish paying bills were a non-essential. ;-)
I wish paying bills and taxes were non-essential too. It's good to know I'm not the only one who resents the time to take a shower -- although once I do, I love it. Taking my dog for a walk is something I almost always make time for, unless it's raining like today. She needs it and so do I. It's more important than making my bed.
Hi Amie:
I think for anyone with kids, summer throws off your rhythm.
E
Hi Suzanne:
I totally agree. When you feel overworked and underappreciated it feels worse.
E
Heather:
Me, too. And with the economy how it is . . . seems like that chore is more gruesome than ever.
E
non-essentials: making dinner for kids and having sex with hubby.
essentials: drinking wine and blogging.
(btw, i sent an email and hope it didn't get on the non-essentials list. hahahahah! it's about the questions for the excerpt....)
:-)
Oh Lord do I need more time in a day! Instead of 24 hours I wish the day were 27 hours long. And that I only needed a few hours of sleep. That's what I need!
