Oh, the Places You'll Go!
Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
You'll look up and down streets.
Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.
And you may not find any you'll want to go down.
And you may not find any you'll want to go down.
In that case, of course, you'll head straight out of town.
It's opener there in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen and frequently do
It's opener there in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen and frequently do
to people as brainy and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen, don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along. You'll start happening too.
OH! THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
OH! THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
You'll be on your way up! You'll be seeing great sights!
You'll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.
You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.
You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.
You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
. . . And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!

KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting. So...get on your way!

Congratulations to your daughter, she's on her way!
Congratulations to you. Preparing our children to leave the nest is our job. I wish you joy as you watch her fly.
I become totally incapacitated at the thought of my son going off to college, even though it thrills me that he's come far enough through adversity and troubles to be able to do so, with gusto. Nothing makes me happier, or more scared, so for now, I just don't think about it.
I hope you're ok today!
What a big day! Congrats and best of luck!!!
Damn it. I need a Kleenex now.
She's a musician, so:
Break a leg.
Oh, gosh, you have me all teary-eyed. I have two students who are in their last year with me: they've been with me for like ten years, and every time they come to their lesson, I tear up.
I hope she has a blast! All the luck in the world!
Erica, a big hug today. Your daughter is well-prepared, I bet, for the journey. I can't wait to see her land on that star one day!
Unleashing a tamer one on society! One hopes the build up of birds flying the nest prepares the world for the hawk at the end.
Your kids are all talented and marvelous. I can't wait to hear how each of them changes their corner of the world.
Erica, you have some seriously beautiful children. :) Good luck to Oldest Daughter.
mom you are an extreme dork.
But I love you anyway :)
I just read that story to my daughters two nights ago. That is just so applicable for her too.
All this means that you did a magnificent job of being a mom. You daughter is healthy, beautiful, intelligent and talented. She is living breathing proof that you are an amazing mother and that you did it all just the way it needed to be done.
Congratulations and a world full of best wishes to both of you. No matter how far away you are, you can always easily pick up the phone, use the internet for AIM, Skype or even email.
Erica, you are a magician... you were and are at the source of her dreams coming true.
I'll leave you with the immortal words of Robin Williams as Mork from Ork (80's sitcom):
"Fly... be free!"
Namaste
Awwww. I gave my brother that book when he graduated college. He says it's his favorite graduation present.
He's an architect now in Richmond, and he's starting to develop himself a little reputation as someone who does great work. I think he's going to go places with that.
That poem was so perfect for your daughter, as if it was written for her. Stock up on kleenex.
Good luck to Baby Girl! Wishing her lots of great adventures in learning.
Mine leaves next Sunday (On my birthday!) She's doing her senior year for nutrition/dietetics. I'll soon have my own personal nutritionist!
Can I borrow that poem? My dd just finished directing Suesical the Musical at a local theater. It would be perfect!
Thanks all.
It was sad, but I am getting through it. Barely. The silver lining is we're close, so . .. it's very sad because we LIKE each other, and not many moms of teen girls can say that. :-)

did you ever see that show "The Gilmore Girls?" I bet you and your daughter have a Lorelai/Rory type relationship. :)
zoe:
Very similar, actually. We bond over music. And she tells me everything. At times I wish SHE DIDN'T, but then I think about it, and no, I guess this way is a lot better. :-)
