FIVE STARS
This is a great insightful work that takes the typically lighthearted chick
lit format into new horizons. --- Harriet Klausner
And The Reviews Keep Rolling In---
Orloff, author of Diary of a Blues Goddess (2003) and Mafia Chic
(2004), tackles the weighty issue of cancer in her new novel. Michael and Lily
have been best friends for half of their lives, and Michael is more of a father
to Lily's two children than her philandering ex-husband. So when Lily gets a
mammogram for a newspaper column she is working on and the doctor discovers
a lump, Michael is the one she turns to. Lily is determined not to let the cancer
beat her even if it may kill her: she opts for stylish scarves over wigs and
continues to write her column. As Lily prepares for the worst-case scenario
by putting her affairs in order and arranging for Michael to adopt her children,
she is surprised to find love with a fellow cancer patient. And Michael, who
has studiously avoided commitment, falls hard for a handsome chef. Readers will
recognize Orloff's trademark snappy writing and lovable characters even as they
appreciate her moving exploration of a tragic situation. Kristine Huntley

And that's final
She never imagined she'd drive a minivan. Or have a turn-into-her-mother moment
when she refuses her daughter a tattoo. Or have a relationship with a gay friend
that is more loving and enduring than her own marriage. Yet it is Michael Angelo
at Lily Waters' side as she gives birth, while her soon-to-be-ex-husband, dubbed
Spawn of Satan, is busily spawning with another woman. Lily confronts all that
and more with indomitable, earnest determination in Erica Orloff's Do They Wear
High Heels in Heaven?. When Lily learns she has stage four breast cancer, she
takes on the challenge of finding a love match for Michael, so he can give her
children a family when she's gone. And even as Michael falls seriously in love
for the first time, with George, he cares for Lily with tenderness. Orloff has
written an unforgettable celebration of true love between friends and family
with compassion, cheekiness and oh-so-much-heart.
DO THEY WEAR HIGH HEELS IN HEAVEN? is one of those poignant, profound, tear jerker-but-still-funny books. I’ve read three Orloff novels now, and she just keeps getting better.
